Judith Lucci's Biography
Dr. Judith Lucci is an Amazon bestselling author who writes what she knows. She is the author of the Alex Destephano Medical Thriller Series and the soon to be released Michaela McPherson mystery series centered on a retired homicide detective from Richmond, her 82 year old side kick, Countess Dorothy Borghese and her rescue police dog, Angel.
“Before I wrote fiction, I was an academic writer who published research, theoretical works, text books and just about anything a nurse or college professor needed to publish to survive. The differences in academic writing and writing fiction are dramatic. Writing what I know propels me to pull from my clinical experiences, some good, some not and use popular fiction as a means to teach and advocate for others. My books have three purposes, to engage the reader, to entertain them and to educate about healthcare and perhaps, the darker side of hospital life.
Dr. Lucci is a nurse who holds graduate and doctoral degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Virginia. I have always been a reader and a writer and I love it. I am a member of the Virginia Writers Club, The Shenandoah Valley Writers and Sisters in Crime.
When I’m not writing I am probably teaching, paining on silk as I am a multi-media artist or playing with my many dogs. Please feel free to contact me at judithlucciwrites@gmail.com. I am excited about meeting you!

Hello Judith and welcome to Rukia Publishing. Thank you for taking part in our meet the author feature.
Tell us something about yourself.
Hi, I am from Virginia in the US and spend my time between the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I am a nurse and a college professor as well as a mother two several children and six dogs.
What is your favourite genre to read?
I love thrillers and historical fiction.
What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about?
My family and my animals.
Can you name something you cannot live without?
Diet Pepsi
When you are not writing, what do you like to do?
I am a multi-media artist and silk painter. I design silk creations
If someone who hasn’t read any your book and they asked you to describe it (the elevator pitch!) what would you say?
I would describe them as medical thrillers based on true life drama and events
“Medical Thrillers that Chill the Heart”
Do you have a special place where you write?
I write all over my house, in my office, in my bedroom, in my art studio. When I am writing, I follow the sun.
Do you write from an outline or a plan?
You know, I used to outline the entire book but I always deviated away from the outline. I always think I know what I am going to write and how the scenes will flow, but in truth the characters take over and I just pretty much write what they tell me.
If you had the opportunity to stay on a remote island for a month, with food, water and shelter provided, what would be your:
Can you tell us about your new writing projects?
Yes, I have a new series I hope to release early in 2016. It is my Michaela McPherson Mysteries series set in Richmond, VA. Mic is an Irish-American retired homicide detective who owns a bar, Biddy McPherson’s, in Shockhoe Bottom that serves as the local watering hole for the Richmond police. Her best friend is an aging Italian Countess, Dorothy Borghase and the two, along with Michaela’s retired police dog, Angel, solve crimes. Of course, I’m working on the fifth Alex Destephano Medical Thriller as well.
What influenced your decision to self-publish?
My need for independence and control over my work. I’m getting a little too old to be told what to do and when my original publisher did, I decided to go Indie.
What do you find to be the greatest advantage of self-publishing?
Flexibility, setting my own goals, speed in which a book can be released, the incredible support of other Indie writers, just to name a few.
Conversely, what do you think self-published authors might be missing out on?
I really don’t know of anything unless maybe a publicist who will represent me to others, something I can do myself but seldom have time.
With the number of self-published books increasing, it can be difficult for authors to make their books stand out. How do you go about this?
By branding… I use the same fonts altho different art so all of the Judith Lucci books complement each other.
Who designed your book covers?
An artist friend who does graphic design
Do you believe that self-published authors can produce books as high-quality as the traditional published?
Absolutely, no question!
