“You are asking me for my soul, sir.”
Richard peered through the iron bars at the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. And he’d only just read how she murdered two men. If the reports were true she did it in defense of someone else but the alleged victim never came forward and the men’s families made sure someone paid. He decided he had to be honest with her, even if it came at the loss of the project.
“Yes, and I have no guarantees if it will work or if your soul can even be recovered if it does.”
She stood and approached him. For a second he thought about backing away. The crime scene photos alone gave him cause to fear what she could do with her hands. Even between the bars she looked small and frail, but a lifetime’s worth of fight training made her one of the most proficient warriors in the world. And that was how they sealed her fate. Any fight she entered into would immediately be deemed as use of deadly force.
“Come closer, Mr. Alumnent and I will name my terms,” she whispered.
He took a deep breath and stepped forward, bending down so his 6’2 frame fit to her 5’4’s.
Before he could draw another breath her hand snaked through the bars and gripped his shirt. She dragged him in so his face pressed against the metal.
“I will submit to being your science project on one condition.”
“Yes.” He allowed himself a moment of pride for the steady response.
“I will not die a virgin. You will find a suitable man to take my virginity and then I will consent to your prodding and science.”
He blinked trying to wrap his mind around her demand. The thought his entire project depended on her virginity seemed surreal. And only cemented his resolve for the necessity of the project. If humanity was so lost that a person would prize sex over saving millions maybe Cardinal was right. He voiced that opinion and Ruby caught the name before he could take it back.
“Who is Cardinal? Someone you have in mind?”
Richard cleared his through and dislodged her fingers so he could step away. “He is no one you need concern yourself with.”
And the absurdity of her trying to entice Cardinal surprised him. The man was the least sexual being he’d encountered. In his studies he had interactions with all sorts.
If her one demand was sex then he would find someone to do it. “Do you have a preference for your companion’s age or physical characteristics?”
She hung her wrists over the bars like a wet rag on a sink’s edge. “I don’t have much of a preference. Someone close to my age is all I care about. Taller than me and not too chubby.”
Richard filtered the requirements through his mind and nodded. “Fine. I'll do it.” He stalked from the prison and back to his lab. Maybe one of his lab assistances knew where he might hire a prostitute for a conjugal visit on death row.

Hello and Thank you for joining us!
Today we have a special guest blog from one of our featured authors here at Rukia Publishing, John Searancke.
Without further adieu here he is, John Searancke.
Author of
"Prunes For Breakfast"
&
"Dogs Days In The Fortunate Islands"
Sarah Jane, thanks for inviting me to write a spot for your blog.
My name is John Searancke, and I live with my wife Sally in the north of Tenerife, one of the islands that make up the archipelago known as the Canary Islands, out in the Atlantic Ocean. We moved here from England about 7 years ago, and since settling in, I have become a restaurant reviewer for a Tenerife newspaper, been invited to take on reviews for a UK publishing house, imported an old classic car which we drove down through Spain from unearthing it in England, and, in between all of that, written two books.
I always wanted to write a book, but it had been right at the back of my mind until I retired and thought that it was “now or never”!
The first is entitled Dog Days in The Fortunate Islands and describes the joys and tribulations of exodus to live in a foreign clime, learning a new language and coping with the thousands of quirky Spanish protocols. Our dog Freddie has some chapters of his own, where he meets and makes some new friends. Some of his exploits are almost too astounding to believe – but they are true!
My second book is completely different, and is entitled Prunes for Breakfast. After having been handed a family cache of letters from WW2 that I did not know existed, I wrote the war story of my father – he who never mentioned his war after it was over, and who had been a distant parent. I discovered another side to an extraordinary man who made the most of his war, who was finally captured in Normandy, and languished, after a horrible journey, in a prison camp in northern Germany. Nothing could ever be the same again afterwards…
I love the titles of both of my books. I wanted to come up with something different and eye-catching. The first book title is a play on apposite words and the second…well, you will have to read it to find out why it is called that! It is SO relevant!
And finally, a word about the front covers. Both were drawn and painted by my brother in law, John Harding. I supplied my ideas for a rough brief, and he has come up with a couple of covers that not only do I love, but clearly many others do too, judging from the comments that I have received. John works as a commercial Illustrator when he is not exhibiting his own paintings and, should you be in need of a front cover, just ask me, to be put in touch!
Thank you for that John!

Read Chapter Three Here!
Bombay, India — 26 June 1975
The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes. --Marcel Proust
We arrived in India at 7:00 AM. On final approach, I pointed out to Charles the hundreds of shacks, surrounding the airport. Endless clothes lines strung across roof tops to dry laundry.
“Welcome to Bombay, gateway to India,” the flight attendant announced.
We pulled our belongings from the overhead bin, and waited for the cabin doors to open.
Exiting the plane with us was a beautifully dressed Indian woman, in a sari which appeared to have gold threads woven into it. “Be careful in the terminal,” she said in a thick British accent. “There are bands of thieves who steal valuables. Keep your suitcases close to you at all times.”
“In the airport?” I questioned.
“Yes, It’s terrible. Crime in India is out of control. The government needs to do something about it.” “Oh, thank you,” I said, “we’ll be careful.” With only ten minutes to catch our scheduled flight to Madras, we stopped at the airline desk to ask them to hold the plane for us.
“What is your final destination?” the airline clerk asked.
“Colombo, Sri Lanka,” Charles answered.
“I’m sorry,” the airline clerk said. “It’s not possible. You’ll need to collect your baggage and pass through customs.”
“Customs?” I asked. “We’ll never make the flight.”
“I can book you on the next available flight to Madras in two days time, and on to Colombo,” she said.
We wondered aloud how to contact our friends in Trincomalee. No clue how to let them know.
“Surrender to fate,” I said.
“Not much we can do,” Charles said. “Book us on the next available flight out.”
“Since the delays are Air India’s fault, we will book you into a luxury hotel and pay your expenses,” the clerk informed us.
“Where will we be staying?” I asked.
“The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel,” she answered.
“The Taj Mahal?” I asked. “Fabulous!”
“It is,” she said. “It’s been renovated and is beautiful. It’s Bombay’s first harbor landmark and the first licensed bar in the city.”
“Sounds great.” Charles smiled.
“It’s legendary,” she said. “Ask the hotel staff to tell you about its history. The ballroom has a gorgeous view of the Gateway to India.”
“Exciting,” I said. “Thanks!” I turned to Charles. “Time to see the sights of Bombay.”
Charles nodded.
“But for now, all I want is a shower and a comfortable bed,” I announced. With our tickets re-booked, we followed the crowd into the baggage area.
After two frustrating hours, we found our luggage and proceeded through customs.
We lugged our heavy suitcases along a long corridor in the direction of the exit. Charles walked ahead of me, trying to locate a bank so he could change money. Seeing none, he suggested I stay with the luggage while he explored. I pushed our suitcases close together and stood waiting for him to return.
Disembarking passengers thinned out. All at once, the terminal seemed eerily empty.
Out of a side corridor, three young Indian men appeared, moving toward me.
I quickly straddled the suitcases and sat, legs dangling across them.
Approaching, they asked if I wanted help moving them.
“No, thank you!” I said, firmly. “I’m waiting on my husband.”
“We help you,” one young man said, reaching for a suitcase.
“No,” I shouted, looking around the terminal for help. I noticed a sea of orange robes heading my way. A group of young women chanting and dancing in brightly colored orange saris.
“Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama,” their chant grew louder and their dancing got wilder as they neared.
The three young men backed away and disappeared into a dark passage.
When the dancers reached me, they smiled.
One introduced herself as a devotee of Krishna, and offered to sell me a booklet to benefit the starving children of India. Others continued to chant and sway.
“Where are you from?” I asked.
“New York,” she said. “And you?”
“I’m from LA. Why are you in India?
“We’re here to sell our books and spread the word about Krishna Consciousness, and build a temple to honor our Swami, Srila … ”
“There are thousands of starving children in New York,” I said.
“We worship the Hindu god Krishna as the one Supreme God,” another young woman chimed in, ignoring my comment.
“So you’re missionaries?” I asked.
“We’re evangelists. We believe in reincarnation …” one follower wanted to explain their beliefs, but another interrupted, while others continued to chant.
“I believe in reincarnation,” I said. “But I don’t think I need to sell it to others.”
They kept chanting and dancing around me.
“How many times do you have to chant this?” I asked.
“Sixteen,” a young woman answered.
I shook my head in disbelief. Where the hell is Charles?
“We’re vegetarians, and abstain from worldly pleasures,” the young woman said.
“Does chanting help?” I asked. I must have looked confused.
Another young devotee explained they practiced being celibate.
“No drugs or alcohol,” another chimed in. “The temple will be our heaven on earth when it is completed.”
They tried again to sell me the book.
“No. But thanks,” I said, my eyes searching the corridor for Charles and grateful for the diversion which drove off apparent predators. What was taking him so long?
When the Krishna believers realized I had no intention to purchase a book, they moved on. I looked again for Charles and sighed, relieved to see him coming back. His smile told me he had found a place to exchange money.

How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?
I’ve been writing for about 10 years. I started as a copywriter and it’s grown from there.
How did you come up with your stories?
Most of the core of the story just hits me then I work around the idea
What are the best and the worst aspects of writing?
The best aspects of it for me is seeing an idea turn into a book. The added bonus is seeing someone enjoy it.
The worst for me is writing the sex scenes. I don’t know why it’s so hard for me but it is.
What inspires you to write? I love the process but what inspires me the most is my fans! They are the best.
Tell us about your other books?
Tropical Dreams and Tropical Nightmares are my romantic suspense series. Cooking with the Crazy Lady Authors is a great cookbook collaboration I did with some of my closest author friends.
Do you have any blogs/websites?

Let's Get Started!
How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?
Well, I self-published my first book in 2014. I’ve been an avid reader since grade school and it was always my dream to write. I remember being captivated by the written word since I could read. I have been writing for myself for years. Things like short stories, outlines for possible books, journal entries, and even some bad poetry, but it wasn’t until I had children that I felt true inspiration. I wanted to write something that my own children could identify with, relate to, and of course I wanted to entertain them.
How did you come up with your stories?
My first series is YA paranormal story featuring teen heroine Grazi Kelly. Each following series, The Angela Tanner Files and the adult paranormal Macconwood Pack Series are all part of her universe. Grazi has been whispering around my brain for years, the other characters and storylines just sort of followed. I took things I know something about, NJ, Italian cooking, Catholic school and used all of them and more in my works.
What are the best and the worst aspects of writing?
The best aspect of writing for me is when I am editing and I’m all like, wow, did I really write that? I mean we all suffer from self-doubt and that is certainly one of the low points of being a writer or working in any of the creative arts. I imagine the most difficult aspect of writing for me is when the inspiration just won’t come and it feels more like a chore than the joy it actually is for me. Whenever that happens I just take a little time out, play with my kids, go for a walk, or cook something yummy up in the kitchen.
What inspires you to write?
I find inspiration everywhere. My husband, my children, my friends, books, music, TV, Church, politicians, trips to the doctor or grocery store. I use it all. It’s all a part of life. I write to entertain and maybe, hopefully, to teach, after all that is what storytellers do
Do you have any blogs/websites?
Yes. You can find me here:

Thank You C.D. Gorri for sitting with us!
Thank you so much for your time. Grazi’s universe is evolving and growing with every word I write. These amazing characters have been whispering around my head for years, I only hope I am doing them justice with my writing. Be well and happy reading!
